Know the Symptoms of Retinal Detachment

By coreyconsulting
July 7, 2017

The retina is the part of the eye responsible for sending visual messages to the brain. Should it become detached, permanent vision loss can ensue.

Because there is no pain associated with a retinal detachment and it can happen without any warning, it is imperative to be aware of possible related symptoms. Symptoms of a retinal detachment may include sudden appearance of floaters, flashes of light, and blurred peripheral vision, which may seem like a curtain or shadow of the patient's side vision. Loss of central vision can also occur. Retinal detachment can happen at any age, though adults are at greater risk. Other risk for retinal detachments include family history, trauma, nearsighted, recent surgery (like cataract surgery), and other related retinal conditions.

A retinal detachment requires immediate attention.
