Dealing with Low Vision

By coreyconsulting
July 12, 2017

Low vision occurs when a person has lost a certain amount of their eyesight; it is caused by diseases. This reduction in eyesight makes it harder or even impossible to complete normal tasks. Over ten million Americans have a type of visual impairment, and the major cause of low vision is typically diabetes, cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.

As a person ages, he or she may find it harder to read small print, even while using corrective lenses. The brightness of colors may be affected, it may be harder to determine object contrast or their vision may seem unusually dark. Individuals that cannot improve their vision via corrective lenses, medical treatment or surgery may find some relief through low vision services.

A licensed professional can be highly beneficial in helping a person dealing with low vision. After thoroughly examining the patient’s medical and vision history, an assessment can be made on determining the best vision rehabilitative exercises and aids to improve low vision. These may include walking aids, magnifiers, therapeutic strategies, vision training, independent living aids, and more.
